A walking trail leads visitors along the cape, where you can enjoy dramatic cliffside views and the deep blue sea below. Nearby stands Kamui Rock, and the surrounding area is also known for its rich natural environment and rare wildlife. The word “Kamui” comes from the Ainu language and means “god” or “divine being.” B. Shimamui Coast The name Shimamui comes from the Ainu words Suma Mui, meaning “rocky bay.” Located about 1 kilometer east of Cape Shakotan, this beautiful cove is surrounded by steep cliffs and is famous for its exceptional water clarity. Visitors reach the viewpoint through a short tunnel, and the coast has been selected as one of Japan’s Top 100 Shores. C. Yoichi Orchard Enjoy fresh seasonal fruit picked directly from the orchard. Depending on the season, fruits may include strawberries, cherries, peaches, plums, grapes, Japanese pears, and apples.
