Why route direction matters

Hakodate is far from Sapporo, so a good Southern Hokkaido charter should avoid returning to Sapporo every night. Moving south through Lake Toya and Onuma before staying in Hakodate makes the trip more realistic.

5-day classic route

Day 1: New Chitose Airport → Lake Toya, about 150 km. Day 2: Lake Toya → Oshamambe area break/lunch → Onuma Quasi-National Park → Hakodate, about 180–220 km. Day 3: Hakodate Morning Market → Motomachi → Kanemori Red Brick Warehouse → Goryokaku → Mt. Hakodate night view. Day 4: a slower Hakodate-area day, choosing Onuma, Shikabe or another southern-Hokkaido stop. Day 5: Hakodate → Hakodate Airport. If you must return to New Chitose, consider a sixth day, JR or a domestic flight.

6-day New Chitose round trip

Day 1: New Chitose Airport → Noboribetsu. Day 2: Noboribetsu → Lake Toya. Day 3: Lake Toya → Oshamambe → Onuma → Hakodate. Day 4: Hakodate city. Day 5: Hakodate → Onuma / southern-Hokkaido stop → Oshamambe → Lake Toya or Noboribetsu. Day 6: hotel → New Chitose Airport, optionally via Kitahiroshima if flight time permits.

Who is this route for?

The 5-day version is best when you can depart from Hakodate. The 6-day version is more realistic for a New Chitose round trip. Days 3 and 5 of the six-day route are the main long-distance days and should not be overloaded with extra stops.

Operational note

Driving distances and hours are planning estimates. Driver breaks, winter roads, holidays, accidents, closures and attraction opening times can change the final route. The licensed transport operator makes the final operational confirmation.
